Band name: Them Dead Beats

From: Barry

Influences: (taken from the band’s Facebook) Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, The White Stripes, The Doors, The Black Keys, Velvet Underground, Nirvana, Shovels and Rope, The Sonics, The Clash, Howling Wolf, The Rolling Stones, Dr. Feelgood.

Them Dead Beats are a self-described “filth-infused garage rock and blues” two-piece, originally from Barry but now secured in the gritty heart of Cardiff’s rock music scene. Consisting only of drummer, Rhys Gallivan, and frontman, Matt Taylor taking on both guitar and lead vocals; it seems like Them Dead Beats would have to work pretty hard to create a sound strong enough to stand out against the rest, and they do both.

Them Dead Beats’ tireless efforts are mostly channelled towards playing live, having played a number of shows in Newport, Cardiff, Bristol and the surrounding areas with more shows lined up, Them Dead Beats are relentless in attitude with a bold, assertive sound to match.

Riff-heavy rock and roll laced with raw, gravelly vocals and fast, powerful drums, songs like ‘Little Pleasures‘ and ‘Sharpshooter‘ ensure you immediately know exactly what Them Dead Beats are about, paired with their already defined and upfront image, this is only re-enforced through their super-charged live shows.  They perform with an air of superiority, with only two of them on stage, it would be easy for them to come across as separate musicians instead of a unit, but their confidence and energy ricochet off each other, it’s clear that they enjoy playing together and this brings Them Dead Beats together as a band who are a thrill to watch.

Them Dead Beats are storming Cardiff’s music scene with yet another show lined up to launch their long-awaited debut EP ‘Give Us A Minute‘. This show will take place in Undertone in Cardiff on June 18th with support from WETPAINTTT, Everyday Heroes and In Bliss. If you’re local, you can pick up a ticket and a copy of the EP for just £5, you don’t want to miss out.
