Welsh Music Wednesday #1: Houdini Dax

houdini dax
Band name: Houdini Dax
From: Cardiff
Influences: (taken from the band’s Facebook) The Beatles, Tame Impala, Supergrass, Racehorses, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Beach Boys, Kurt Vile, Mac Demarco, Unknown Mortal Orchestra.

There’s so much going on with these guys right now, I don’t know where to start. Houdini Dax have been a consistently great band for the past few years and it seems 2015 is the year that will finally bring them the recognition they’ve worked so hard for. They specialise in filthy riffs and tight pop choruses that you’ll actually enjoy having stuck in your head.
Their latest single, ‘Apple Tree‘, is in my opinion, their strongest song yet. I’m looking forward to catching them this month on a fantastic tour put together by BBC’s Horizons and again next month in Newport supporting one of my favourite Welsh bands, The Vestals.
‘The Dax’ put on an incredible live show; they carry themselves like professional musicians way above their level but maintain the young, reckless on-stage energy of a band who are out to have fun. If they’re coming near your town, be sure not to miss them but if you do, I imagine these guys will be everywhere pretty soon.
