Artist Of The Week: Ballerina Black

Think of the name “Ballerina Black” and you probably imagine Natalie Portman at her Oscar-winning best. Possessed pirouetters aside, Ballerina Black – the band – have an undeniably cool yet instantly accessible sound. They describe themselves as “mope-rock”, “grave-wave” and “gloom-pop” which are surprisingly accurate ways of labelling their music. There’s something about them that’s distinctly downtown Los Angeles yet at the same time, they sound like nobody else. In short, there’s just something about them. We’re not sure what it is yet, but there’s definitely something.

Their latest EP ‘Injureless: Svart‘ is available to download for free here.
