Artist Of The Week: Phosphorescent

Six albums into his career and Matthew Houck (working name Phosphorescent) remains relatively obscure. It’s definitely not a reflection of his musical talent, and it’s probably not even because our spell-check generation struggle with his nom de plume – it’s just the nature of the commercial music industry. If Phosphorescent took to twerking, maybe he’d get bigger gigs. Although perhaps he’d need to be female, as the promotional photo of him naked but hatted (the slut!) in a bath tub didn’t go viral. However, the music of Phosphorescent will still be played long after pop’s biggest stars have faded even if it takes half a dozen more albums for him to ‘breakthrough’.

Muchacho De Lujo‘, the deluxe edition of his critically acclaimed 2013 release is out today.
