New Music Monday: The Lash and The Vestals

the lash the vestals

Looking for new bands can be like a finding a needle in a hay stack. Thankfully there are times when you’re pointed towards a diamond in the rough. Good music recommendations are like buses, you wait around for ages for one then two come along at once. One thing that’s for sure is that both of these discoveries showcase originality, unlike our intro (we were using up our cliché quota on purpose – shame on you for assuming the worst). This week’s tenuous link between the two? They’re both from Newport, Wales.

The Lash

With a rock and soul throwback sound, there’s always a danger of struggling to fit in today’s sound but with a revived interest in rockabilly and their own twenty first century twist, The Lash are a welcome addition to the pallets of 2013’s music fans. Their new single ‘Surrender‘ is available to download for free.

The Vestals

We first spotted The Vestals opening for Gallows earlier this year. Back then, they were making noise from their double A-Side ‘Perfect Pain‘/’Seventeen‘. They’re still pushing the same songs but there’s a sudden revived interest in both tracks across the blogosphere. If you haven’t heard these already, take a listen. If you’ve heard them before, give them another spin and remind yourself why this band are worth buzzing about.
