MTV‘s Video Music Awards is one of today’s most popular music award ceremonies. Australian rapper Iggy Azalea is nominated for the ‘Artist To Watch‘ accolade. Ironically, nobody will be watching the artist at Reading and Leeds festival this weekend after she pulled out in favour of the US ceremony.
Azalea revealed that she would no longer honour her UK commitments via Twitter earlier this month, although the unofficial announcement only gained the attention of major news outlets earlier today.
Reading & Leeds festival is not happening for me unfortunately. Although im sure i will get in trouble for this i think its better im honest

@IggyAzaleaFans @calumok International travel takes time my loves. It’s not teleportion. I’m not going to be at the festival.

However, was her decision the right one? Or does she deserve the inevitable angry responses from her festival fans when they eventually get the memo?
Of course, Iggy Azalea will benefit from the exposure of the VMAs – especially if she picks up a moonman – but other nominated artists, such as Fall Out Boy and Twenty One Pilots, are still appearing at Reading and Leeds as scheduled.
If she wins, the VMAs could be one of the biggest gigs of her career but even if she is successful, is it ever ok to snub a show for one that’s ‘better’?
Answers on a postcard please.
